We have a winner…

Really sorry to those of you who read the Q&A post about me… That’s not till next week. Today is much more exciting–today is about who won THE ABOUT ME PAGE contest!

First I want to thank Jessica Grieves of Hey Girl, Nice Shot and Kelli France of Francy Pants Academy for being guest judges and reading all of the entries with me as well as offering up awesome prizes! Thanks ladies!! I also want to say thank you to Simply Color Lab for helping make our prize pack bigger and better, allowing me to offer up a grand prize totaling almost $900 dollars!

I was a little worried in my head when it was time to decide on a winner. What if we all three chose a different submission? What would I do in that instance? There were so many great submissions I could tell it would be really hard! Both girls (Jessica Grieves and Kelli France) emailed me separately who they thought should win, we chatted on the phone, and finally the decision was unanimous (I couldn’t agree with them more) that Carrie Rainey of Carrie Rainey Photography is our winner!

Here is what Jessica says, “I love how she incorporated her branding into the photo.  And the ‘about me’ and photo makes her seem fun and easy going – someone I would want to get to know.”

Here is what Kelli said, “Her self portrait went so well with her branding. It stuck in my head, it’s memorable and cleaver… These things are super important. And for her blog post, who doesn’t love a top 10? It was just brilliant.”

Thank you so much to every single one of you who submitted an entry! (see all submissions here) Getting to read each one and hear from so many of you that you’re encouraged and inspired and being pushed (in a really pleasant happy way, right?) by Go{4}Pro… It makes my heart so happy! I can’t believe how many amazing entries there were, we wanted to give honorable mentions to a few more because there were so many other great entries I could honestly say something great about each one. I just LOVE “about me” pages!!

Anwen Elizabeth – Self Portrait is branded to logo/colors – huge plus!

Brooke Snow – Brooke Snow in snow, couldn’t help but love that!

Megan DeShazo – Hilarious and fun, you want to know her better!

Lennae Warren – Love what she said, really connected to her words!

I also wanted to offer a few thoughts for great “about me” pages so that this would be a learning post as well! Feel free to add to the list in the comments.

Tip #1: It should have your name on it, especially if your business name is not your name. I think you do this best by introducing yourself in the beginning or signing off at the end.

Tip #2: Your self portrait should be a reflection of your work. The style or processing should not be completely different from your regular work (even if another photographer did it).

Tip #3: Your self portrait should make people want to know you better. Clients should be able to connect with you in regards to what you specialize in. If you’re a children’s photographer think in your mind that you want them to connect with you the way they would a teacher, but a really cool one! 🙂 If your specialty is engagements or weddings then your image should have more of that vibe to them.

Tip #4: Identify what you would like to see to feel like you know someone better. A lot of times I want to see full body or at least most of the body. As a client, if all I see is a really close up of a head then I might have a hard time picking you out of a crowd when I’m trying to spot my new photographer at the park. I guess the camera might be a give-a-way but I still want to feel as confident and comfortable as possible walking into a session.

Tip #5: The information you share in your about me page should help clients connect to you not just personally but also as their photographer. I want to know that the goal for each image that you take is in line with what I hope to create for my walls.
