A Downbeat Day(Confession of a WFH Mom)

Yesterday….

When I was woken up at 7 am by our 3-year-old, I just wanted to cry because I was so tired that it physically hurt to try to pull myself up out of bed. I had fallen into bed sometime around 4 am after trying desperately to play catch up from a weekend of no work because of family being in town and Easter.

I got a fun email from Marsha that made me feel better even if only temporarily.

Feeling more on the upbeat instead of downbeat, I skipped downstairs and made the kids fresh fruit smoothies. I let them pick what we put in them so they were filled with strawberries, blueberries, and grapes. I felt pretty good about myself for making such a fresh yummy breakfast.

Ran upstairs to take a shower, turned on the hot water (it takes forever to warm up sometimes), and ran into my office to answer the studio line. I got sucked in by my office… Β Until my daughter came in and asked why the shower was on. Had totally forgot… Had to take a miserable cold shower.

Adi spilled her smoothy and it splattered up 4 walls onto the ceiling and all across the floors. Cursing the fresh berry smoothie!

Realized that I had completely missed a set of emails after receiving a threatening email from a client, called immediately to apologize profusely but she’d already requested a refund.

Called hubby ranting about my email still not working and that I am looking like an idiot and that I just want my old email system back and to work right! He went on to give me advice about setting alarms on my phone so I don’t forget things, while this may have been excellent advice, I wasn’t in the mood to hear it.

Cleaned the kitchen, started laundry… Couldn’t find any of Paysen’s undies after an accident so he had to wear his sisters.

Chatted with Kelli for a bit, talked about our sites, and how we could make them better… Talked about an assistant. I really like that idea.

Made dinner out of leftovers, ignored the dishes.

Got to work, was planning to only work till 9 pm. At 9:34 saw an email that said, ‘did you overlook this too?’ Seriously wanted to cry! I had missed the confirmation email for a phone consult because it filtered itself under a Facebook post (want to kick my email in the shins) which subsequently made me miss the phone consult. Got to profusely apologize for the second time in one day, she was awesome and promised she’s a night owl too and so we started talking just before 10 pm.

Worked as hard as I could until I couldn’t any longer… collapsed into bed at 1:30 am and fell into my husband’s arms, instantly realizing while simultaneously whispering, ‘I forgot to make your lunch‘. He told me it was okay and he would just buy lunch tomorrow.

… Thank goodness tomorrow is now today and today is new!

Oh Leah! Sounds like a horrible day. You deserve a VERY tall glass of wine tonight… Try to relax and put yourself in the mindset that tomorrow is going to be the PERFECT work day. Then tomorrow set into motion all of the things that would make the day as perfect as possible.

    Sending you hugs……

    Noa

  2. Jess says:

Leah, thank you for being so real. You’re not the only one with days like this!

  3. Marissa says:

So the saying goes, “when it rains is pours.” Days like that just make me want to curl up in your bed and stay there! For me when I’m having one of those days, it never fails that in one small moment, my daughter will do one little thing that warms my heart and helps me breath a little better. I hope and pray that today, one of your munchkins does that something that reminds you of the good in your day πŸ™‚

even super woman has her off days! chin up girl! i think we can see you definitely DO need an assistant to alleviate some stress in your life! πŸ™‚ SO wish i could help you, but not sure you’d want someone 6 months prego! πŸ™‚ just keep pushing through, everything will work out splendidly (even with jolts along the way!)

  5. melissa says:

Leah- I hope your day tomorrow brings you more smiles! Know you are blessed with a great talent that brings a whole lot of smiles onto your clients’ faces!
    : )

    • Leah Remillet says:

Thank you Melissa! You have been on my mind heavy yesterday and today… Fun things are coming your way in just a bit!

  6. samantha says:

Yikes! I agree, you are ready for an assistant!

  7. Morgan says:

    Leah,
I am so sorry that you had one of those days. They are the worst. When I have those days I just try to think of one thing for the next day that I can do better. We aren’t perfect, and we can’t expect ourselves not to have a bad day every now and then.(way easier said than done, right?)
You really are amazing and you have a huge impact on thousands of people everyday, especially your family. I hope that you can find an assistant who is just as awesome as you are. You deserve it!

PS Isn’t technology the best and worst thing ever?

    • Leah Remillet says:

Ummm yes! I live and die by technology. It’s the greatest blessing but it can also feel like a curse. As I guess it’s true with almost anything in life though.
I’m excited about the assistant! I can’t believe how many resume’s I’ve received!! Now, how am I EVER going to PICK JUST ONE!??

    Read this on Pinterest today:

Wake up every morning with the thought that something WONDERFUL is about to happen.

    I wish this for you!

  9. Ashley says:

And yet you still made time to blog about it! Days like that are usually few and far between, so you’re good for awhile! πŸ˜‰

    • Leah Remillet says:

Well I blogged about it the next day anyway… I was actually rehearsing everything in my head (that sounds odd!) while I was driving home from picking up one of my girls from ballet and decided it would make a good post. Last night, my hubby was like, ‘so interesting post today’ and I explained that I just want people to know that we all have screw up days and we’re all real. Some times we get trapped into thinking that some people have it all together and that’s just never the case!

  10. Whitney says:

The sun is shining today, (at least in MT which has been rare) and things can only get better! You are a positive person and your bad day will be nothing but a far off memory by next week. Hope today brings you lots of hugs, kisses, and happy clients!

    • Leah Remillet says:

It’s shining in Portland too! Today’s going to be great, all I have to do to make a great day is get one big thing off my to do list and I’m walking on sunshine again! πŸ™‚

Thanks to you and EVERYONE for the encouragement… YOU GUYS ARE WHAT REALLY LIFTS MY SPIRITS!!!

  11. Krysten says:

I’m sorry you had such an awful day, but I just have to thank you for sharing and tell you that I SO needed this post! I’ve had a string of days like this lately and while it’s definitely not good, it’s relieving to see that it happens to the best of us. πŸ™‚ Thanks again!

  12. Alex says:

Awe, Leah! For one, thanks for being so real. Your honesty helps us regular folk feel good about ourselves, lol! Keep your chin up, better days are coming, and don’t forget that you have a huge support system behind you! πŸ™‚

  13. Maggie says:

Oh Leah, I have days like that too, but am always thankful to start fresh. Hope you’ve had some more good moments lately. Thanks for being so real.

  14. Vanessa says:

Aaah Leah, this hits home with me on so many levels. I would also like to thank you for being so real and letting us all know…it’s okay! All of this craziness…isn’t just MY craziness…it happens to us all! πŸ™‚ You’re fantastic!
