Why You Don’t Get Things Done & How to Fix It

For your average creative person… Ideas are of plenty.

We walk around sparking new idea in the shower, the car, while chasing kids and glancing thought books. We are idea factories! The only problem (and it’s a big one) is that our ‘assembly lines’ just plain suck. All of these awesome ideas, often never even end up leaving our own minds. Today I want to share with you how we can go from being a creative dreamer to a creative doer!

Great News! The Portraits & Packs, Back to School Photographer’s Promotion Campaign (that’s a mouthful) is in the shop and is available as an instant download! Get your phone ringing AND get all those school shot families amped up for their holiday portrait session!
The Portraits & Packs Promotional Campaign is available in the shop for $10.

This was an awesome post SO helpful! Thanks Leah!

Did my husband contact you or something? We were talking about this just last night! I am just what you described. I plan the ribbons and trimmings but leave holes in the nuts and bolts of things. I’ve been forcing myself to work more with the “to do list” strategy. Your video inspired me to work even harder on this and organize it into lists for each step (which is way more obtainable for a girl like me). I love the promotion pack! That helps so much.
Now I’m off to work on my address lists (email and physical). See, these are the things that don’t get done when you’re focusing on the bells and whistles, but sheesh, this is one of the keys to getting business. What was I thinking!?!
    Thanks!
    Mary Beth

    • Leah Remillet says:

Actually Mary Beth, your hubby did ask me if I could get you to see it his way. Juts kidd’n. The best tip, I can give you and I can’t remember if i said it in the video is to make your action steps easy! You know how on your to-do list you have a tendency to skip over the hard stuff and go to the easier stuff. Make everything single action items so that you will be able to resist than tendency. It’s helped me a ton!! Now go get em’ πŸ˜€

  3. I loved this video. Great job! I just finished the next step to my next promo and thought about you the whole time. (I just realized I put on a yellow shirt too- you are inspiring me all over the place. lol) You deserve more oreos!

    • Leah Remillet says:

Cherie, You’re so amazing to me! And I totally think of you when I eat my Oreos now! As goes under way, send me a private email because I want to know how it goes… And I love that you’re wearing yellow! πŸ™‚

  4. Kendall Stoy says:

I love this post – I am totally the idea dreamer who never fully goes through with it! My biggest obstacle with promotions and mini sessions is figuring how to price it so that it is actually “a special” but not so much that I am still doing a ton of work and not getting enough money in return.

    Any suggestions??????

    • Leah Remillet says:

Kendall – that’s a great question. I should write a post about that! But, the short version is this… Think Este Lauder. They do the free gift with purchase right? I never buy my foundation until that promotion. Do less images (way less) I do 10 with a mini to keep your editing down and then offer a fun “gift with purchase” that has low cost to you. So say that your session fee is normally $200. Make it $75 and they get a 5×10 story board (look at the portraits & Packs promo in the shop to see what I’m talking about) as the special gift. Anything else is a la’ carte but you could create mini package to go with you session type as well. Hope that helped! πŸ™‚

  5. Annie says:

LOVE it! SOOOO true, Lots of crazy creative ideas but need more preplanning!
    Thanks!

  6. Great video Leah πŸ™‚ I just sent out a promotion to my past clients and a little something for a friend of theirs. Everyone loves my new branding! It makes me happy…so bright and colorful. You rock!

  7. Alyssa Plunkett says:

Awesome video! I’m a real big dreamer, but when it comes to making things happen its all a blur!! Just starting out in this arena, but this is really great and useful information for me. Keep it coming! Thanks!

  8. Kendall Stoy says:

Thanks so much Leah! You’re the best! LOVE your site!

  9. Cathy R says:

Ok… where did you get the cute folder?

  10. You know when you hear something and you think……I totally needed that? Well, this was it! I get “stuck” and can’t quite get out of the dreamer phase. Thanks Leah for sharing your thoughts and helping out us dreamers so we can become creative doers. πŸ™‚

  11. Michele says:

Thank you, thank you, thank you for that post!!!!

  12. Christin says:

I just now got caught up on your blog and I love this post! It’s exactly what I’ve been telling myself I need to do, and I’m completely with you on having something to actually hold, and looking pretty would help too πŸ™‚ Thank you Leah!

  14. This was very helpful. When I first watched the movie, I almost stopped it because I thought I knew everything you were talking about, but I am glad I kept watching it because I learned and was inspired a lot to take the leap and get organized. Thank you. I can’t wait to see more now.

  15. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was just telling my Mom how frustrated I am with myself because I have all of these wonderful ideas for my business, but I get so overwhelmed with the day to day that they never come to fruition.

My mini sessions have never been a success, and maybe it’s because I start marketing them too late. I usually do a blog post 2 weeks before, then make sure to mention it on facebook as well. Am I starting too late? Should I not even do a promotion unless I have a months notice?

    Thanks Leah, you’re great!

    • I would start them earlier. Offer them to your client base but let them know this is VIP, they get the first chance, then the newsletter and the blog. The one thing that may hurt Mini’s is if your regular pricing is to good to need them. I don’t know what you’re pricing is but that may be something to look at? Good Luck with this next try… Hope it’s a HUGE success for you!
