Stretched.

Somewhere between got it and together, I lost it. I have these moments from time to time, the kind where I want to scream, cry, jump up and down, kick at walls, you know… Normal sleep deprived, 2 year old type behavior. Whenever I have these moments it’s always, always, always because of the same thing. How do they define insanity? Attempting the same action over and over and over expecting a different result?! Ummm, yes – I believe that was it.

So here I am, feeling somewhere between anxious and crazy all because I did it again!Β I stretched myself too thin. Whenever I have one of these moments, I feel the need to tell you. I always want you to know that I am real… That was probably obvious with the incredible amount of grammatical errors you have to put up with but just in case you missed those… I need to tell you I’m here.

A real girl – a real mom, trying to be it all, do it all, take care of it all. Sometimes I gotta tell ya, I’m awesome. Seriously, I am! I mean sometimes I’m just a multi-task’n ninja ready to take it all on and I’m do’n it with gorgeous stiletto’s on my perfectly manicured tootsies! Other times though, my awesome sauce gets switched with weak sauce and well, I start to feel it all crumble.

The blogging world has a nasty habit of putting on a perfect face all the time, and I don’t believe in that. We are all imperfect people just trying to get it right. Sometimes we do and sometimes we don’t. What matters is that we keep trying. Every – single – day… We try, we hope, we believe and we go at it again.

  1. Oh Leah – love ya style. You’re a good at making us all feel so very normal. It’s also good to know that what you go through is a global feeling… It works the same here on the other side of the planet. I must say though, I know if noone who is more productive & efficient than you are – it’s lucky you don’t need sleep quite like the rest if us do. Hang in there Leah – you’ll back in the control tower soon enough xxx

  2. PS I’m also partial to a few typos xxx

    • Krysta! Fabulous Krysta!! Well you know me and my typo track record. πŸ™‚ Thanks sista, I always love when I see a comment from you! You are such an encouragement to me… Thank you! I can’t wait till someday when we actually meet and i get to hear that adorable accent of yours!

  3. Annie Wilson says:

Leah, first of all we will blame the typos on the computer or phone, whichever it may be. It always messes up my perfect writing! (I am laughing like a crazy hyena) Well at least it makes me feel better, to blame it on auto type not the crazy part. But just to let you know, I am fairly new here but everything that I have read here, makes me think that you must be pretty awesome (pedi or not) so to find out that your not actually perfect sure makes me feel a lot less crazy. You are so supportive and will to share that you gotta have an off day every once in a while or we wouldn’t think your human. Superwoman was a cartoon, remember? Thanks for all of yourself that you share.

    • Thanks Annie. Now I’m smiling like a kyena! You’re right, she was a cartoon but wow was she drawn well. πŸ˜‰ Thanks for saying hi and giving me the chance to get to know you better, I’m so happy that you found Go{4}Pro!

  4. You are so not alone! Days where you go – Yeah I did all that with time to spare. Then turnaround and nothing can get done in time or quick enough. Oh the balance, so hard to get right.

    • Oh how I do LOVE those days when I did it with time to spare… I’m a rockstar in my own head on those day! I even have to pause for a moment to recognize all my sweet moves like jagger on those days!! πŸ˜€

  5. I LOVE it when people are REAL!!! For REALS!!! Thanks for sharing! I’m feeling the same way about now, I guess misery loves company! πŸ™‚ haha, just teasing. I hope things settle down for ya soon! πŸ™‚

  6. Hang in there Leah! I appreciate all you do for us photographers πŸ™‚

  7. Rachel says:

Hi Leah! Deep breaths πŸ™‚ Isn’t it crazy how the online world can make us resemble Superwoman so closely that even we believe it?? (Of course there are days that I really do feel like her!) Just remember you are not alone in the Battle of Trying To Do It All and it makes your readers love you even more to know that you are actually normal. I always try to remind myself how blessed I am that I have all of these people (especially the little ones), responsibilities, and passions that pull me in so many directions. If it weren’t for all of them, my life would be pretty dull…and that would be something to stress about!

    • You are so right! I love that I have so many things that I’m passionate about! I hear people say you should simplify, but I don’t want to simplify – I love this life and ALL that I have going on in it. But with my decision to keep it all I have to deal with days where I feel a little stretch, but it’s worth it! It’s so worth it especially for the little ones! Thanks Rachel!

Oh Leah, Thank you!!! I love reading blogs but get frustrated with the superwoman/man images we can create of our lives. I recently opened a studio and found myself trying to write about how perfect it was and how smoothly it went and feeling so inadequete because it wasn’t as pretty as all the ones I saw on line- no designer furniture and perfect paint lines, and lets not even discuss accessories. I am so proud to welcome people into my space in person, but I was scared to put it out there online. I had a bit of an epiphanie(http://www.alisondouglassphotographyblog.com/2011/12/imperfect-mine-sabattus-maine.html if you care to read it) and realized that I ask my clients to come as themselves for their session and be vulnerable and trust me when I couldn’t even do the same. I have started embracing my dorkdom on the blog, in person and on Facebook and I have to tell you, it has been a huge huge positive response from my clients and friends.
Thank you for being real. For reminding us all it is ok to show the reality behind the multitasking stilletos. And for your spelling errors, because, well, that is you! (sorry this got so long!)

    • Alison – I loved your post! It was great getting to know YOU better! πŸ™‚ I love seeing the glass as half full and honestly half of the reason I believe that my life is so wonderful is because I try really hard to only focus on the positive. I could dwell on the little things that don’t go quite right but we are what we think about, I whole heartedly believe that… At the same time. If I do have a bad day, I feel an obligation to tell you guys because I want you to know that we all have them! (At least I do! πŸ˜‰

Thank you for your wonderfully long comment! I loved it! πŸ™‚

  9. Carrie says:

Love you sista! Ha! I started laughing while reading this because I’ve even had those similar days/feelings WHILE I’m here on maternity leave!!! What’s that say about me?!!!!! lol πŸ™‚
I have no doubt you’ll be right back up there in no time! Hugs!
