Bar Cart Styling (Without the bar)

Like so many others, I have been obsessed with the bar cart rage…and I’ve been itching for a reason to create one of my own. But with one big difference, since I don’t drink – my “bar cart” is actually a luxurious snack cart. At first, I couldn’t decide where to have it, should I put it in the living room – the very traditional spot – or – in my office. My office won for now but I’m actually hoping I can get away with having two! What do you think???

How to Simplify Bar Cart Styling:

Create Layers. The key to interesting design is layers. Having different heights, shapes and color interests while keeping to a theme.  I knew my color palette and then went out to find items that would bring it all together. I hit thrift stores, Home Goods, Marshals, Nordstrom Rack and more. Then I brought everything home and just started playing.

Break it Up. To break things up, I added two small trays. One white tray for the top shelf (from Target’s dollar spot years ago and I spray painted it white) and a black 5×7 Ikea Frame that I flipped upside down to hold smaller snacks in (on the bottom shelf). Now that I had sectioned off parts of the cart, it was much easier to fill and style.

Have Fun with it. Add a few pops of spunky visual interest and remember you can always switch things out through seasons and over time. I added striped cocktail napkins and straws and a dainty gold hand statuette that I found at a thrift store. These were just a couple silly elements that I felt made the cart more interesting and inviting.
