This office makeover comes to us courtesy of Heather España of España Photography! I have to share with you the back story of this post. You see, this fabulous post came to you after yours truly was blog hopping from one place to the other and back again looking for office design inspiration {for my birthday I want to complete my office!} so I’m hopping around the world wide web and stumble on a photographer’s office makeover. I was pretty excited because – well – I really like photographers! I decided I’d email her and find out if I could feature her awesome makeover here and that’s when I realized that not only is this design savvy sister a photographer but she’s a photographer in Portland, OR and guess what — SO AM I! Now I was getting really excited! Turns out we share the same friend (Maricar) and live in the same city and love the same thing (cheap ikea organization boxes… j/k, well sort of). And well that brings you up to speed on my awesome little “it’s a small world after all” moment with Heather! Now that I got to tell you my little story, let’s move on the office makeover shall we???
1. As a photographer, we’re far more inclined to have ideas rather then follow through. Tell me about the process of actually making your dream office become your reality!
I’d been working in such tight corners for about three years, I was very motivated to get my office done! I had pretty clear ideas of what I wanted to do with it ahead of time, so it was just a matter of making it happen. I saw the vintage wallpaper collage wall in my head quite a while beforehand, and – much to my joy, my Aunt Trisha has a whole collection of wallpapers! I went to Seattle and helped her organize her studio, and she let me choose some papers in return. It worked out perfectly. I’m also super grateful to my friend Maricar for helping me design the Elfa shelving — she’s an organizational wizard, and my friend Rachel for helping me style everything for the photos.
2. How has your new work environment affected your productivity?
I’m such a visual person that my environment has a huge affect on how inspired and productive I feel. Having things organized helps me keep my head clear for sure, and having fun little things to look at helps keep me inspired and excited about my work.
3. Obviously I love branding and I noticed that your office is very well branded to your business! Will you share a little bit about this?
Thanks so much! I’m ridiculously partial to warm colors – not just in my business, but in my life in general. I just gravitate towards reds, oranges and yellows. It’s funny, but as I was picking through my aunt’s vintage wallpaper collection, I really was just picking the ones I liked the best. It ended up being that they were all in the same color palette! I think it worked, and kept things cohesive. I love my spaces to have a whimsical feel to them, and [hopefully!] a sense of humor. Those are two qualities that show up often in my photography, which I really enjoy.
Isn’t it charming? Heather… I positively love what you’ve done with the place! Thank you so much for inspiring us with your lovely new office and it’s so great to have a new friend as well!
Whoo! LOVE it, Leah!
Love It! I love the red and white color scheme. I would need a ladder to get to the top shelf I think if it was mine 🙂
Thanks so much for the fancy feature Leah! You are fabulous!
You are so very welcome Heather… But really the pleasure is ALL mine!
This office looks amazing! I’m jealous! My office is so unorganized right now that I don’t even enjoy working in it. It’s on my to-do list.
Uh Oh Adrienne! Especially with that new awesome logo we’ve just designed for you…. I want to feature YOUR Office next! Oh yes – I’m challenging you! 😉
Uh oh! I better get to work then! 🙂
This makes me want to make a day-trip up to Portland to visit Ikea and get my own office in order! Soon, very soon…
Yay!! Great feature of Heather’s gorgeous office space, Leah!! <3
You always have such great ideas, Leah! Thanks to you and to Heather for sharing this! I am SO looking forward to that “clear head” thing Heather talked about! I’m also giving Rescue Time a try! Thanks again!
Thanks Anna! The Rescue Time is pretty cool… Just knowing that someone is watching me (even if it is ME watching ME) helps me stay on track!
Oh how I wish I had office space to make over! The working in a corner of the living room is getting very old very quickly! Beautiful makeover & love the wallpaper wall! Keep inspiring us!
I completely love this! Can I ask where the shelving came from? I’ve been looking for a solution like this for my home office!
I’m pretty sure they are from Ikea. 🙂
