The unexpected will always create a “WOW”! The key to mastering the unexpected wow is actually in the planning. It may be a wonderful surprise to your clients but you knew it was coming the whole time. One perfect example of this is video! I switch up to video mode without my clients noticing several times during the session. This has an incredible effect when they see the slide show for the very first time. If photography paints the pictures of our memories, video adds the vibrance!
Here is a sample of a slideshow. The little interview clips were taken when mom and dad were distracted…
I create my slideshows with Animoto Pro
hello 😉
I do it too some times… great advantage ! Where is yours, you did not add the link !
Oh shoot. It was there. WordPress has a bad habit of removing embed codes out of posts. Thanks for letting me know.
Wow, so cool! I love making slide shows, but the video really adds something special. Sigh…now I just have to go out and get a 5D MarkII!
Oh Sandy! I know how you feel! I’ve been doing these video clips for years, before I got my 5D even! I use to use my iPhone. Pretty ghetto and a lot harder to be sneaky but it still added that little extra to it!!
I love this video! Great job. I know any parent would love to have something like that to share on Facebook or with their family.
I really need to figure out how to use this function on the mark II. And also how to add text inbetween slides! lol!
Let’s change that! I just made you a video on how to turn on video…. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150282758346870&oid=128521410492393&comments
What a brilliant idea! I love it! Very powerful vibrance 🙂
Wow Leah! What a brilliant idea!!! I sometimes work as a second shooter with a wedding photographer who does an awesome same-day slide show to music & it brings the house down, but I never thought to do it for my portrait sessions!!! Especially the little interviews, too cute! Thanks for the great idea. Now I’ve just got to work out how to do it… haha!
Leanda :^)
This is incredible! I got teary-eyed watching it :O) I can just image how much the parents would LOVE it!! Is this something the parents keep or do you just use this in your in-person ordering??
Thank you Courtney!! It got me teary too.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE how you incorporated video here!! I’m a fellow animoto pro user, but unfortunately the Nikon D700 doesn’t have video capabilities (yet…. waiting for the big announcement aug. 24th!). The video clips add so much depth to the entire slideshow, did I mention I loved it?
xoxo
Noa
I definitely want to give this a try! I can see how effective it could be in ordering because it strikes the emotional cord. Such a great memory for them too 🙂
I love this! Ok, time to figure out the video on my camera, I have been dodging it!:) A question– Do you sell the slide show to your families as well? I am just trying to thing how to price something like that….
Yes, I absolutely sell them to my clients. The slideshow comes in all of my collections and is available a la carte as well. A la carte it is $150. When I first started my pricing it was $25 (I was thinking about the cost of a regular DVD) but this is custom and made just for them. One thing I do, is when they purchase it I format it so that they get a disk they can play in their DVD player as well as an MP4 to use for the web.
AND…. Here is a vido if you have the Mark II for how to do Video Mode: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150282758346870&oid=128521410492393&comments
Thank you for sharing that info, very very helpful! I shoot with the 60d, the Mark series is on the someday island:)
Love it…sigh….!!!
Fabulous…the interviews are a great touch! I’ve been using Animoto this year and am also in love but I’ve NEVER seen the template with that “countdown” beginning…am I just blind? Would you mind telling me which one it is?
Of course I will but it’s actually not a theme. I use the classic and upload my own images then in step one I go to ‘Select from our Collection’ —> VIDEO —> Effects
You’ll see a few fun options to play around with! 😀
Thank you…I’m gonna do that right now!
