Oh boy, do I have a treat for you today. We’re diving into the world of health and fitness with the incredible Jen Lohner. My friend and expert who’s been coaching me and making fitness and nutrition feel less like a chore and more like a lifestyle. So let’s chat about keeping those health goals alive beyond the first few weeks of the year!

Meet Jen Lohner:

Hi!  I am Jen Lohner, a certified personal trainer and a nutrition coach.  I am passionate about health and fitness and feeling the best version of yourself!  I love helping women realize that their goals are possible, but it takes a mindset shift, some discipline, hard work, and a coach that can help you get there.

Simplify, Simplify, Simplify!

We all start the year with grand health goals, but by February, it feels like most of us have thrown in the towel. Which is why we need to simplify the process! Life gets busy, and trying to stick to elaborate fitness plans can be challenging. Jen’s mantra is all about making health goals simpler. Seriously, who needs complicated when simple can be just as effective? 🤷‍♀️

Exercise Without the Sweat Storm

We all know that the all-or-nothing mindset can sabotage any of your goals, but especially your fitness goals. The truth is you don’t need to spend hours dripping in sweat to see results. Can I get a Hallelujah!? Jen breaks it down – 30 minutes is enough! The secret sauce? Have a plan. Know exactly what you’re doing when you hit the gym, and those 30 minutes will work wonders. No need for the “all or nothing” drama!

No more excuses about not having time – 30 minutes is totally doable! I’m proof of that! This past year I have seen exactly what 30 minutes or less can do and you really do get results!

Goals Define the Game

Whether you want to transform your body, gain more energy, or both, goals matter. Jen emphasizes tailoring your approach based on your goals. For body composition changes, it’s heavy lifting. For overall energy, mix it up with a bit of everything. Setting clear goals helps you align your fitness strategy.

Goals give you direction and purpose – it’s like having your own personal fitness GPS.

Nutrition – The Real MVP

Turns out that nutrition plays a massive role (we’re talking 80%) in achieving your health goals. But how do we do that when we’ve got so many other things going on! Tracking macros is Jen’s go-to method. And I get it, that can seem overwhelming, tricky, and the opposite of simplifying- but it really can be simple!

Basically what you need to know is that Macros – fats, proteins, and carbs – are the building blocks of nutrition and the secret is in the balance. High protein for muscle, smart carbs, and fats for energy. Keep it simple, find an easy for you system to track it, I like the app MyFitness Pal, and voilà!

Simplifying Nutrition for the Win

Seriously, nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated. One way to keep it simple is repetition. Find a few meals you love, and stick to them. It makes tracking macros a breeze. Remember, boring can be beautiful when it comes to nutrition. Less complexity, more success.

Eating the same thing might sound boring, but trust me, it makes life so much easier. I usually keep my breakfasts and lunches similar and simple and then change up dinners daily. The trick is finding what works for you, so some trial and error may be needed.

Fluctuations Are Normal

As you are working on your fitness and nutrition goals it’s important to know that weight fluctuations happen. It’s the nature of the fitness beast. Jen assures us that finding a baseline where you feel comfortable is the key. Use the scale as a tool – not an obsession – to understand your body’s natural rhythm. The scale isn’t the enemy – it’s a friendly guide full of information for you to use on your journey. But if it’s causing too much stress- take a pause for a minute and give yourself some love.
