The Power of Planning Ahead

We’ve all had moments where we wished we had done something ahead of time. Whether it’s preparing for the next day or making a simple decision in advance, these small actions can make a world of difference. One of my favorite quotes is: Self-love is self-discipline. When I take the time to prepare, I feel my best—like I’m truly taking care of myself in the best way possible.

Today, you’re going to be your own best friend and show yourself some love by picking three simple things to do tonight that will make tomorrow smoother, calmer, and more productive.

Your Balance Challenge: 3 Simple Things for a Better Tomorrow

Think about what small actions could set you up for success. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Prepare your lemon water – Every morning, I drink 20 ounces of water with a full lemon and a pinch of sea salt to hydrate and boost my immunity. I make it the night before so it’s ready first thing in the morning.
  • Lay out your clothes – Whether it’s workout clothes or an outfit for the day, having it ready eliminates one more decision in the morning.
  • Review your schedule – A quick glance at the day ahead helps you feel prepared and avoid surprises.
  • Tidy up the kitchen – Waking up to a clean space reduces stress and starts your morning off right.
  • Plan your meals – Whether it’s prepping breakfast, ordering groceries, or deciding what’s for dinner, a little planning saves time and energy.

These don’t have to be big tasks—just small, intentional actions that eliminate morning chaos and set a positive tone for the day.

Take It a Step Further: Make It a Family Habit

This isn’t just a solo challenge—you can get your whole family involved! Try having each family member choose three things to do before bed. Here are some ideas:

  • Set the table for breakfast – A simple task that makes the morning routine smoother.
  • Unload the dishwasher – So there’s less work to do in the morning.
  • Pack backpacks and lunches – No last-minute scrambling before heading out the door.

By turning this into a family habit, you’re not just reducing stress—you’re teaching your kids responsibility and the value of preparation.

The Science Behind Planning Ahead

Did you know that planning ahead can reduce anxiety by up to 20%? A study from the Harvard Business Review found that when we take proactive steps to prepare, we feel more in control and less stressed.

If mornings feel rushed, chaotic, or overwhelming, this simple habit can be a game-changer. It’s a way to build trust with yourself and reinforce self-love at a deeper level. When you wake up and realize past you has already taken care of some things, you start the day feeling ahead instead of behind.
