Welcome to Day 5 of the Stacking Balance Challenge! We’re making our way through our micro shifts, and today’s challenge is going to feel so good once it’s done. We’re tackling digital clutter—specifically, that overwhelming, never-ending email influx that floods your inbox daily.
Did you know that the average professional receives 121 emails per day? That’s a lot of digital noise, and let’s be real—how many of those emails do you actually want to read? How often do you open your inbox and think, Wow, I’m so excited for this email!? Probably not often.

Your Challenge: Unsubscribe from Five Email Lists & Reduce Digital Clutter
Today, we’re taking control of that digital clutter chaos. Your task is simple: Unsubscribe from at least five email lists that no longer serve you and get rid of that digital clutter.
Now, before you panic—don’t unsubscribe from mine! I hope you find value in being here. But take a moment to evaluate the other emails clogging up your inbox and decide which ones need to go.
This might be easier than you think! Many email platforms now have a simple “Unsubscribe” button at the top of marketing emails. If you’re using Apple Mail, Gmail, or another major email service, chances are you can do this with just one click. If not, scroll to the bottom of the email—there’s almost always an unsubscribe link there.
Pro Tips for Unsubscribing Quickly
- Search your inbox for “unsubscribe.” This will pull up all the newsletters and promotional emails in one place so you can clean house efficiently.
- Use free tools. Some online services can show you all your email subscriptions at once, making it easy to bulk unsubscribe. I’ve included some of my favorites in your free Stacking Balance Resource Pack
- Think of it as a long-term gain. Every email you unsubscribe from today means less inbox clutter tomorrow. That’s fewer distractions, fewer unnecessary decisions, and more focus for what truly matters.
Why Tackling Digital Clutter Matters for Balance
Your inbox is essentially someone else’s to-do list for you. Every time you open it, you’re faced with demands, promotions, and messages that may not align with your goals or values. A cluttered inbox leads to overwhelm, procrastination, and decision fatigue.
We’re not aiming for a perfectly empty inbox—this isn’t an all-or-nothing situation. Think of it as a dimmer switch: small steps now create space to build upon later. By clearing out unnecessary emails, you’re freeing up mental space and reducing digital distractions.
Your Future Self Will Thank You for Reducing Digital Clutter
Take a few minutes today to unsubscribe from at least five email lists. If you’re feeling ambitious, go for 10 or 20! Notice how much lighter you feel afterward.
And remember—this is about progress, not perfection. Share your progress with your accountability group and celebrate the small wins.
See you tomorrow for Day 6, where we’re giving ourselves a break from something that might be a little tough—but I promise, you can do it!
