Choose a bag (purse, work bag, backpack, etc.).
Dump everything out!
Toss the trash, unnecessary receipts, and anything you don’t need.
Reorganize the remaining items so everything has its place.
That’s it! A simple task that can have a surprisingly big impact.

This is my bag, I love having this organizer in it! It definitely helps me keep my bag from turning into a bottomless pit.
The Science Behind It
Research suggests that clutter negatively impacts our cognitive function and ability to focus.
A feeling of control over our environment can reduce stress and increase feelings of well-being.
Small, manageable tasks are more likely to be completed, creating a sense of accomplishment and momentum.
Make This Shift Stick
- Set a timer for 10 minutes. This will keep you focused and prevent the task from dragging on.
- Consider using bag organizers or inserts. These can help you keep everything in its place.
- Make it a habit. Aim to sort your bag once a week to prevent clutter from building up.
