Ready to break free from diet culture, heal your body image and finally feel at peace in your body?
On this episode of The Balancing Busy Podcast, I’m diving into one of the most powerful (and personal) conversations I’ve had yet. And trust me—it’s one every mom entrepreneur needs to hear.

I’m joined by the incredible Heather Creekmore—a body image coach, author, and host of the Compared to Who? podcast. Together, we’re pulling back the curtain on diet culture, body shame, and how to finally stop measuring our worth by a number on the scale.

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and felt like you just didn’t measure up…
If you’ve ever thought you’d finally be happy once you “lost the weight”…
If you’re tired of obsessing over calories, carbs, and comparison…

Then girl, this episode is for YOU.

💥 Let’s talk real freedom, food without fear, and why it’s time to stop fighting your body and start embracing her.

Your Body vs. Your Body Image: It’s All in Your Head

One of the biggest lightbulb moments from this conversation? Body image isn’t actually about your body—it’s about your thoughts. Mind-blowing, right? Heather broke it down so clearly: even the women who fit society’s mold of “conventionally beautiful” still struggle with body image. Why? Because it’s not about what you see in the mirror—it’s about what you think when you look in the mirror. It’s the inner dialogue, the expectations, the pressure we’ve internalized over years of comparison and cultural messaging.

Think about that for a second—if someone like Taylor Swift, who graces magazine covers and stages around the world, can still wrestle with body image insecurities, then it proves no one is immune. And that’s exactly why chasing a “perfect body” will never be the answer—it keeps the goalpost moving. Instead, what we can work on is our mindset. A healthier, more compassionate relationship with our body starts in our mind, not in the mirror. That shift—from changing how we look to changing how we think—is a total game-changer.

From the Golden Girls to J.Lo: Aging, Expectations & the Unrealistic Pressure on Women

Let’s talk about the wild shift in what we now expect women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond to look like. Seriously—remember The Golden Girls? Those beloved ladies were portrayed as being in their 50s, rocking gray hair, housecoats, and a whole lot of sass. Fast forward to today, and women in their 50s are expected to have six-packs, dewy skin, and red carpet-ready glam at all times. We went from comfy cardigans to crop tops real quick!

Heather brought such an important perspective here—she challenged us to stop and ask: What are we missing out on by chasing this never-ending goal of looking younger? The answer? A lot. We’re missing out on joy, on being fully present, on actually living our lives instead of constantly trying to reverse them.

And here’s the truth bomb: aging isn’t a flaw—it’s a privilege. A wrinkle means you’ve laughed. A soft belly means you’ve lived. When we stop fighting our reflection and start embracing our real, evolving selves, we create space for so much more peace and freedom. Let’s normalize aging beautifully—and by “beautifully,” I don’t mean filters and fillers. I mean grace, gratitude, and maybe a little bit of highlighter if you’re feelin’ fancy. 😉

Be Careful What You Listen To: The Diet Industry is Lying to You

From low-fat everything in the ‘90s, to the carb-cutting craze, to today’s obsession with keto, gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, clean-eating perfection—the diet industry has spent decades convincing us that we can’t trust ourselves around food. The message has been loud and clear: Your body doesn’t know what it’s doing. You need rules. You need restriction. You need someone else to tell you how to eat, when to eat, and how little is “enough.”

But Heather gave us a powerful reminder: it’s time to shut out that noise. All those diet trends? They’ve drowned out your intuition. That quiet, wise voice inside that knows when you’re hungry, when you’re full, what feels nourishing, and what feels draining. We were born with it—but over time, we learned to ignore it.

Here’s the truth: If you don’t even recognize what hunger or fullness feels like anymore, you’re not broken. You’re not weak. You’re just buried under layers and layers of conflicting messages that have taught you to second-guess your own body. That stops now.

The path to peace with food doesn’t come from following the next trendy meal plan—it comes from rebuilding trust with yourself. It starts by asking: What do I really want? What feels good in my body? And then—this is the hard part—you listen. And you honor it.

Because your body isn’t the enemy. It’s not something to be micromanaged or punished. It’s your home. And it’s been waiting for you to come back to it.

Coming Up in Part 2…

Okay, if this episode cracked the surface, Part 2 is where we go deep!
We’re getting super practical and talking about how to actually step away from the toxic diet mindset, reconnect with your body, and create a lifestyle that feels freeing, not restricting.

We’ll chat intuitive eating, body respect, and how to teach our daughters (and ourselves!) that worth isn’t a dress size.

👉 So let’s jump to Part 2—it’s where the real transformation begins!
