I’ve been in a funk!

Do you ever just get in a funk? You don’t even have a decent reason, let alone a good one… You’re just in a funk.

That’s been me lately.  And I’ve been trying to figure out what was causing it…

Was it my melancholy playlist?

The fact that I ruined $200 (but more importantly 120lb. of what would have been delicious) dill pickles because I didn’t get to them in time?

That I wasn’t getting enough beauty sleep?

That I had several things that I kept procrastinating, which really needed to get off of my to-do list (and more importantly, my brain)?

Or the crappy email that hurt my feelings?

I’m still not sure what  the cause was…. But I finally decided to do something about it.

I changed my playlist from melancholy to Mama Mia.

I asked my hubby to open up the jars and chuck the pickles so I wouldn’t have to stare at them any longer.

I skipped my run and slept in (but only for today).

I got five of the most plaguing things off my list.

I deleted the email from my inbox and my thoughts… Time to move up and on!

I FINALLY TOOK ACTION!

Today, I feel a lot better!  I’m getting back to my normal self.

Sometime we just have to make the decision to fix it,  get over it and just move on.

Totally feel this way sometimes too! Vienna by Billy Joel is excellent food for the soul when in such a funk. Keep inspiring people! : )

Totally understand and agree with you. Take a second to take care of YOU instead of the rest of the world… I have to remind myself of that almost every day (or I should say I try to) Glad you deleted the email and glad you slept in. You deserve it. Everyone does 🙂

    • Thanks Jenny – It’s so true! I feel like I’m good and taking care of me from a productive standpoint, but sometimes I just need to let myself by lazy – and that concept is ridiculous hard for me to embrace. But I did slow down last week (notice no posts at all last week) and now I’m starting to feel ready to go again.

  3. Short and too the point, just what I needed early this morning! Also LOVE the Ocean saying. Blessings to you to have a better day today! Pam ~ For Keeps Sake Photography

    • Thank you so much Pam! I appreciate that. I forget that ‘short and to the point’ can be really nice to take in! I’m kind of terrible about not being able to be short and to the point. Sometimes when I’m proofing my posts, I have to laugh at how many paragraphs I completely ‘x’ out and I still have to long of a post. Thanks for the reminder and the blessings!

Oh this has been me lately as well! Lack of sleep and procrastination are definitely a couple of the biggest reasons for me. It’s hard to feel content when you’re running on empty day after day. This time of year is always so so busy too, it makes the stress levels go way up for me. When I already have so much on my plate, seeing my to-do list mount makes me do the opposite of what I need to do, and I end up putting off everything in favor of things that are not as important. Then I get even more stressed about it, add some guilt to the mix, and it makes me want to procrastinate more.

Getting the hardest things off the list is probably the best advice I could hear right now. In my mind I have to get EVERYTHING DONE RIGHT NOW! But there are things that can wait. I feel like you wrote this post just for me today, and it was exactly what I needed to hear. Leah, thank you.

    • Oh good Sara!! I feel like you and eye are mirror images so I’m so glad that; a) I’m not alone on this and b) it helped you.

Seriously, I can’t even tell you how good I began to feel yesterday. I was so excited to tell my husband… “You know that thing, it’s done now. And that other thing, It’s done now… And that those last 2 things, they’re done now too!” It was liberating. I seriously felt like I had a pep in my step and for the last week, I’d been feeling like a slug! Go knock the hard things off your list, you’ll feel twenty pounds lighter immediately – and that makes it a whole lot easier to start “pepp’n” again!

Now I’m ready to focus on the big but fun project… Getting the product guide launched!

Oh Leah! Just this morning I was thinking about how “blahhh” I have been feeling. Just that feeling that once one thing goes wrong everything else seems to feel like it too! That client that you and I talked about has came back wanting me to give her last year prices and it is totally stressing me out, causing me to feel so on edge with everything.

You are right. The only way to cross an ocean is to loose sight of the shore. Today, today is the day I am going to sail and start checking off my procrastination and fears.

Also, I wanted to give you an update on my thriving… :). Two more premiere sessions since. One was a maternity and didn’t do a collection but ended up spending as much with a beautiful album, two wall pieces and some prints.

Second premiere was with a client who I have photographed 3 years in a row. ( first year, $125 session and disc, second year $450 session and disc, this year… Wait for it… Middle collection plus five more large prints because we created an amazing display that she has been putting off for four years! I walked out of there with a check for $1000+!!!!!

When my business started I never dreamed someone would want to pay me money like that. Thank you for the inspiration today and thank you for your amazing program. Please, I hope you can take this and hang your hat on it. You’ve made your own dreams a successful reality and now you are doing the same for others. Thank you.

    • Amanda… You wonderful, wonderful sweet soul you… You just totally made my day. As in I feel giddy like a little school girl because this made me so happy!

I am so excited for you… And I am so happy to hear that your sales are reflecting how incredibly awesome you are!! I know what that does for YOUR confidence and I’m just so excited to see you THRIVING! I am so glad that you are part of The Thriving Photographer crew!

Okay, so todays the day sister… No more funk for us! We are casting our sails, feeling the salty sea air and GOING FOR IT!

      xo!

    Oh honey, I feel ya!
Sometimes life’s little jabs feel like a bed of nails…..especially when they come all at once.
When that happens it’s time to declare “Damn the pickles! And full sleep ahead!”
And for me, I cuddle with my little dog, and then take a brisk walk while listening to Tony Robbins. That’ll change your state!
    Hugs and thanks for sharing.
    xox

    • Oooh! I love the Tony Robbins idea! Yes… The pickles have been sent to pickle hell (which happens to be at the bottom of our yard waste bin). The jars are now emptied and back on the shelf and we will just have to ration the 4 jars I have left from last year. So I’ll just tell the kids that they can each have one pickle a month. LOL!

I find that the best way to get me out of a funk is to do service… I got a really cool opportunity yesterday at the grocery store and I’ve been feeling much better ever since. See how selfish it really is, because the service always does way more for me than it did for them. I was smiling like the cheshire cat when I walked out and no doubt anyone who saw me walking ALL ALONE with my big goofy grin probably thought I was mad! But I didn’t mind cause I was happy again!

Big hug right back to ya Debbie!!

Wow! That’s exactly how I’ve been feeling for about the last two weeks… in a funk. So I decided to set all the “issues” plaguing me aside – which I NEVER just let things sit like that – and I invited three new ladies from the neighborhood over for brunch after all the kiddos went off to school. I had somewhere along the way of the last few stressful months forgotten how much I LOVE having people over, how much I enjoy baking and getting to know someone new. It was wonderful to have fresh conversation, yummy food, and no worries for that entire morning. It may have started out as a selfish move to invite them over only because I needed a break, but I later found out how much my little impromptu brunch had lifted each of my new friends in different ways too, because they were all in some sort of a funk. I still have a load of stress to deal with, but going into it with a smile on my face and a lighter heart is definitely going to help. I hope you have a better day – one with a big smile – you deserve it too!

    • I love that! That just sounds so fun!! Isn’t it funny how we can forget that there are other things that make us who we are? Sometimes I get so caught up in this passion that I forget that I have other passions…

But it so important that we take a break from one passion to go find another passion… Because when we do that we get refreshed and rejuvenated. You reminded me of that!

      THANK YOU JESSICA!
