Time to register for WPPI!

I’m really super, overly excited! I got registered for WPPI yesterday and booked my room at the MGM Grand today… February is going to be so much fun! I know there are several of you who have never been to WPPI and/or are new to photography and are either planing on it or considering it.  I thought I’d ask my friend George Varanakis who just happens to be the Executive VP of WPPI to help me tell you about making WPPI awesome.

First I want to tell you that I will be planning a fun little dinner for anyone who wants to come to just network, make friends and get to know me and other awesome Go{4}Pro-ers (yes I know that’s not a word). It will either be Sunday night or Monday night depending on when WPPI’s kickoff will be. Leave a comment and let me know if you would want to come… I hope I get to meet all of you cause I’d love to put names with faces and just have a blast together!

Now for George’s mini interview…

Leah: So WPPI U is something new just this year that will be going on Feb 19th and 20th. How would you explain WPPI U in a nutshell?

George: WPPI U is photography 101 for the up and coming pro.

Leah: When reading over WPPI U I read that it covers 1. Lighting and Posing 2. Post-production 3. Business and Marketing 4. The Legalities of Running your Business plus attendees will receive a course completion certificate from WPPI and a “WPPI U” t-shirt. Can you explain the benefit of the course completion certificate?

George: Course Completion Certificate means that you have completed the course with new skills to better yourself in business. From lighting and posing to Photoshop, to marketing and business, you will now have a more well rounded approach to make it in the world of professional photography.

Leah: Okay, last questions. You obviously know all the ins and out of WPPI, will you give some advice for people who’ve never attended before?

Geroge: If you’ve never been to WPPI, here’s a couple tips:

* Figure out what classes you want to take before you even get to the show. This will help you organize yourself a lot better.

* Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Our instructors are there to help you!

* Network! Network! Network! Meet other photographers, see what they do in their markets, help each other out. Share ideas, share tips, share your knowledge.

* Have fun. It’s going to be one of the best weeks of your life. You’re going to meet new friends, learn more than you have in your life and come away with things you can apply to your business right away.

And may I add to bring a big ‘ole stack of business cards!! Thanks so much to George Varanakis for helping us all get in the know for this year’s hottest spot to be come February! Doesn’t WPPI U sound awesome?! Even I want to go… After all you can never know too much about the basics!

That sounds like so much fun! I’d love to attend the WPPI U workshops and also meet up with other go4pro peeps 🙂 It is both exciting and scary to consider making the leap and going to something like that.

I think I’ll be looking into how I can make this happen! Thanks Leah!!

I have thought about going the last 2 years but never followed thru. I start researching and get so overwhelmed with all the goings on that I just don’t even know where to begin. Do you have any advice Leah?

Same here, everything seems so frightening, so many classe (which are almost all booked up) and how it all works) how do you schedule your time, and so many questions….

      • Leah Remillet says:

Last year I did Business Institute which I think is now kind of the equivalent of WPPI-U. It was the best part of the whole week. I also did 3 masters classes. This year I may do one if it’s not sold out already other wise I’m not going to worry about them. And once the schedule for platforms comes out get your highlighter and mark everything you want to hear. Now create a schedule for all your priorities and you’ll see what you have left after that. Noelle did all of this for us last year and it made everything so great!

  8. Kalli says:

    Can’t wait! I’ll be there.

  9. Reid says:

Well I’m a newbie & I think this year, WPPI might be a lil bit overwhelming for me ;). However I do keep an eye on your blog & have learned many things & have definitely enjoyed & appreciated your posts. I would love meeting you & some others over dinner. Please let me know when & I will do my best to be there. =)

  11. I’ll be there and I would LOVE to meet up at WPPI! Hey, it’s where we first met!!! I remember first meeting you and how your personality was so magnetic and energetic, and it shines through in all that you do! I’m grateful that we met then and that we are still friends today! Networking is one of my favorite parts of WPPI! 🙂

  12. Leah I want to meet you and go to the dinner you are hosting. I can only afford to go to the trade show and not the whole convention. PLEASE let me know ASAP when you are planning on having your dinner! I need to base my arrival time on it. Right now I am hoping to come Monday morning, but if you are going to have a Sunday dinner I need to know!!!!

    • Leah Remillet says:

I’ll try to get you an answer asap. As of now I had been thinking Monday night! I just wanted to make sure that the dinner wont be conflicting with any WPPI stuff.
