LISTEN ON YOUR FAVE PLATFORM: Apple // Audible  // Google

When was the last time you sat down and read an actual book?

Are you maybe laugh/crying at the thought because you’re just feeling overwhelmed with all the responsibilities and roles you have to juggle and silently screaming: Mom’s don’t have time to read!

Trust me, I get it!

But don’t worry, I’ve got some tips to help you simplify and prioritize so you can make time for the reading or any of the things that bring you joy and fulfillment.

I’m so excited to introduce you to Zibby Owens. She’s a successful author, publisher, book store owner, podcaster, and mom of four who still manages to fit in time to read…..FOR FUN!

I got to chat with her about how she manages to balance her busy life and still make time for reading and other activities that bring her joy.

Zibby is a total rockstar and she emphasizes the importance of delegation, simplification, and prioritization in order to achieve balance. She’s got some amazing tips and tricks up her sleeve that will totally change the game for you! Plus, she shares her favorite books and offers advice for women looking to make more time for their passions.

This conversation really highlights the importance of finding balance and making time for the things that bring us fulfillment. So, sit back, relax, and get ready to be inspired!

This episode will help:
👉Busy entrepreneurs prioritize activities that bring joy and fulfillment (like reading!)
👉Everyone celebrate the power of delegation and simplification in balancing a busy life

10:32 Making Time for Reading
15:27 Book Recommendations
19:01 Simplifying and Prioritizing
25:13 Importance of Reading

Delegate

Of course I love that the first thing Zibby brought up when I asked her about making time to read was to DELEGATE! Zibby shares how she balances her busy life as a mom of four and being an entrepreneur by investing in a great team, blocking off time for her kids, and saying no to things that don’t involve her kids directly.

Simplify

Oh the power of simplifying and subtracting. We have this tendency to overcomplicate things. But when we can simplify we can make more room in our lives for leisure and self care. One way I simplify things is by eating pretty much the same thing for lunch everyday. I’ll switch it up every week or so, but by simplifying lunch and taking away the time it takes to make that decision, I buy myself back a little chunk of time.

Simply a lot of things, and all those little chunks of time add up, giving you more room to read or have time for any other activity you want to do.

Prioritize

Okay, here’s the thing. You can delegate and simplify all day long, but if you don’t actually prioritize and make it a habit to read, then you’ll just fill the time with something else.

I love that Zibby’s habit for reading is when she gets in bed for the night. It’s become just a standard part of her routine so she doesn’t even have to think about it. Making a habit or creating a ritual around reading is a game changer. I also think it’s important to recognize and voice why it’s important to you. I used to think that sitting down and reading was such an indulgence, but once I realized that impact it really made in my life, I was able to prioritize and make more time for it.

Zibby’s Book Recommendations

Of course we can’t do an episode on reading without dropping in a few amazing book recommendations! My top book pick from last year was Into the Magic Shop, by Dr. James Doty, and I actually shared my 6 favorite books from 2022 in a past episode!

Here are a few of Zibby’s Favorite Reads:

Favorite Personal Development Book: The Happiness Project, by Gretchen Rubin and Joyful by Ingrid Fetell Lee (and here are 7 mindset books that I think EVERY female entrepreneur should read)

Book to make you laugh: The Society of Shame by Jane Roper

Book to make you think: American Dirt, by Jeanine Cummings

Top Memoirs: Slow Motion, by Danny Shapiro and Hourglass by Danny Shapiro

Favorite book about writing: On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, by Stephen King (and I’ll throw in my recommendation for books on copywriting)

I don’t know about you, but after this episode I am so excited to curl up with a good book and reprioritize making time for the things that fill up my cup.
